Psyllium Husk

Psyllium is a natural, water soluble fiber which is taken from the husks of psyllium seeds. It is useful as a cleanser ridding the colon of toxic substances by absorbing them like a sponge.
Dietary fiber, previously unrecognized for its health benefits, has received a lot of attention as of late. It is widely accepted as holding a major role in lowering total blood cholesterol, so lessening the danger of coronary heart disease, and in serving to ease many bowel disorders. Dietary fiber is divided into two basic categories, soluble and insoluble. Soluble fiber dissolves in water, and insoluble fiber, does not. Both soluble and insoluble fibers provide mass in the large intestine and persuade bowel regularity.
Another dietary fiber is wheat bran, which is insoluble and cellulose. Also used frequently are oat bran and apple pectin, both water soluble. Water soluble fibers have shown an ability to lower cholesterol levels. This is achieved through its ability to help excrete cholesterol through the bowel, inhibit it’s synthesis in the liver and to absorb the acids in the intestines. Insoluble fibers do not have the same effect on cholesterol.
Psyllium is also a great natural colon cleanser, it is used to treat a wide range of digestive complaints like constipation, diarrhea and colitis. The amount of artificial and refined food we eat slows down the time for food to pass through I digestion, allowing it to rot and stick in our colon. Dietary fiber is good in colon cleansing for its stool- bulking and softening abilities. Pysllium swells and forms a gel when exposed to water. A larger and softer stool travels easier through the digestive system and requires less exertion to pass.
