Maintaining your Internal Flora

The microbes and other germs that live in our gut, the stomach, small and large intestines and the colon, are our internal flora, more specifically our gut flora.
There are billions of cells in the body, from over 400 different strains. The bacteria in our gut helps with our immune system, digesting carbohydrates, preventing irritable bowels, maximizing the absorption of nutrients and energy production.
A healthy gut flora system is key for weight loss and fitness, and essential to maintain a healthy lifestyle and to stay lean and fit. As our internal flora has a large amount to do with the absorption of what we’re eating, it’s important we deal with this before attempting weight loss. Internal flora can be supplemented by taking probiotics, however it is better for you to switch the brand you use frequently.
Chlorinated water knocks out the good bacteria, so it is better to avoid drinking it and showering with it. Tumeric also promotes good bacteria in the body. You should be aiming for stools which stay together and float in the bowl with minimal odor, because odor is a sign of imbalance in the colon between good and bad bacteria.
Years of carbohydrate intake can mean that the intestines can be lined with sticky residue and clog the digestive system. An unhealthy digestive system means it’s hard for good bacteria to flourish. Colon cleansing is one way to get rid of this residue and to flush the bad bacteria out of the system.
