Colon Cleansing Diet

You can clean your colon by eating certain foods if you do not want to undertake a proprietary colon cleanser. Your colon cleansing diet should include foods that will clear the colon of debris and restore the internal flora to its natural balance.

You need to eat plenty of fibre in the form of fruit, vegetables, seeds, beans, nuts and whole grains. These foods, high in insoluble fibre sweep through your colon getting rid of plaque from all the nooks and crannies in your colon. It also helps improve the consistency of your stools improving elimination and preventing constipation. The soluble fibre dissolves in water and helps to restore the good bacteria in your gut, it also binds to cholesterol and helps it pass through the body.

Oats and flaxseed are two foods highest in soluble and insoluble fibre. You can add a tablespoon of flaxseed to your muesli for extra fibre.

Citrus, strawberries, apples, beans, peas, rice and barley are all high in soluble fibre and carrots, brussell sprouts, turnips, cauliflower, rye, brown rice, barley, cabbage, beetroots  and apple (with the  skin on) are all high in insoluble fibre.

Try to eat 20 to 35 grams of fibre per day: this should include five or six servings of fruit and vegetables and up to six servings of whole grains such as bread or pasta.

To increase the number of good bacteria in your gut you need to eat “live” foods such as yoghurt , kefir and miso. The most useful yoghurt products are those that contain acidophilus. These foods also neutralize toxins and stimulate the immune system.

Foods with a high level of  chlorophyll such as spirulina, barley grass, alfalfa, wheatgrass and blue-green algae are excellent for colon cleansing. The chlorophyll soothes an irritated colon and heals any ttissues that are damaged in the digestive tract. It too helps the body to neutralize toxins and obtain more oxygen.

Water is an essential part of the colon cleansing diet. Drinking ample amounts of water prevents  constipation and toxicity in the bowel and kidneys. You need to drink between six to 10 glasses a day. A useful guide  is to drink half your weight in ounces. If you weigh 120 pounds (55 kilograms) for example , you would need to  drink 60 ounces or two litres of water per day. It does not have to be just  water, you can also drink herb tea or diluted fruit juices. Try not to drink caffeinated beverages as they dehydrate your body. Drink the water in between meals otherwise you dilute the vitamins and minerals contained in your food.

This diet should keep your colon clear of plaque and your internal flora well balanced. It should also prevent constipation, dehydration and give you plenty of energy.
